Texas A&M vs LSU: Mya Perez, bottom of Aggies' order shine in Game 1 win vs Tigers

With the help of some big swings, the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies pulled out a 12-7 win against the No. 6 LSU Tigersat Davis Diamond.

Starting pitcher Emiley Kennedy earned her 13th win of the season, allowing five runs over seven innings while striking out five. First baseman Mya Perez made a bit of history and set a career high with four hits in the comeback victory.

After taking a quick lead, the Aggies found themselves in a hole in the second inning Friday. Back-to-back LSU singles scored base runners against Kennedy early in the inning and the Tigers scored five times to stake a 5-3 advantage.

"I thought (Kennedy) was overthrowing a bit in the second inning... I saw pitches hit 74 mph," Aggies head coach Trisha Ford said.

But Kennedy responded by controlling the zone with her change-up. She held the Tigers scoreless for four innings before allowing two runs in the seventh with the result well in hand. Kennedy received some help from left fielder Kramer Eschete with a diving catch got the win for the Aggies.

But big bats for the Aggies came to play, too.

Center fielder Allie Enright found second base and finished the night with two RBIs on two hits. Enright led the scoring party in the fourth inning with a two-run single that gave the Aggies the lead. Enright said she was just trying to have a good at-bat, but her coach thinks it was something else.

"The softball gods shined on her tonight," said Ford.
