MADISON – The pieces to the puzzle are coming together nicely for Greg Gard.
In the past few days the Wisconsin men’s basketball coach scored from the transfer portal Andrew Rohde, a 6-foot-6 guard who is a 41% shooter from three-point range, and Austin Rapp, one of the best shooting big men in the transfer portal.
Sunday night news spread that Gard added a veteran point guard with Final Four experience.
Nick Boyd, a 6-foot-3 guard who spent this past season at San Diego State, shared the new of his commitment with On3. He then made an Instagram post that seemed to conform his commitment to the Badgers.
The native of Garnerville, New York posted a photo of himself decked out in a Badgers home white uniform with the caption “Let’s do it”
Boyd averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this season, helping San Diego State go 21-10 with a 14-6 mark in the Mountain West. He ranked fifth in the conference with a 2.2-to-1 assist-turnover ratio, seventh in assists and 11th in three-point field goal made (52, 1.68 per game)..
His play helped the team qualify for the NCAA tournament. It lost to North Carolina in a First Four game.
Prior to San Diego State, Boyd spent four seasons at Florida Atlantic that included a redshirt season in 2021-22.
FAU’s 2023 team reached the Final Four. Boyd started 37 of 38 games that season, averaging 8.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in 23.6 minutes per game.
