Wisconsin basketball landed a commitment from San Diego State transfer guard Nick Boyd on Sunday night.
Boyd is the team's third transfer commitment of the last week, following Virginia guard Andrew Rohde and Portland forward Austin Rapp. After entering the portal following the 2024-25 season, Boyd took visits to both Wisconsin and North Carolina, meaning the Badgers edged out a blue-blood program for his commitment.
Boyd began his college career at FAU in 2020-21. He played a significant role as a true freshman, appearing in 23 games and averaging 15 minutes, 5.1 points, two rebounds and 1.8 assists. The 6-foot-3 guard then redshirted in 2021-22, before leading the Owls to a program-best 2022-23 season and Final Four appearance. He increased his averages across the board that season, up to 23.7 minutes, 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists. The Ramsey, New Jersey, native delivered similar numbers as a junior in 2023-24, tallying 9.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 23.8 minutes per game. He then transferred to San Diego State for the 2024-25 season.
Boyd took a major step forward in his one season with the Aztecs. He started all 31 of the team's games, averaging 29.9 minutes, 13.4 points (team-high), 3.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists (team-high) while shooting 41% from the floor and 35% from 3. He led a team that finished the year 21-10 and was one of the last four teams in the NCAA Tournament. It fell to North Carolina, the other top contender for Boyd's transfer commitment, in the First Four.
247Sports lists the veteran as a four-star transfer recruit, plus ranks him as the No. 45 overall player in the portal and No. 11 shooting guard. He joins the Badgers with a final year of eligibility remaining.
