Georgia baseball drops in rankings after sweep, set to face new No. 1

The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team received a tough dose of reality on the road against the No. 2 Texas Longhorns. Texas swept Georgia with 5-1, 7-4 and 4-3 wins over UGA.

Texas earned a 4-3 walk-off win in the 10th inning over Georgia on Sunday. The Longhorns improved to 26-4 and 11-1 in SEC play (tied for first). Georgia dropped to 29-5 and 8-4 in SEC play (tied for fifth).

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 6 in the April 7 edition of the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll. Georgia was previously ranked No. 3.

"It's tough on the road and everybody knows that," said Georgia baseball manager Wes Johnson after the series. "Today was the game when you look back and say we played good baseball. We needed to get more hits, we had some chances. We pitched well. We played pretty good defense. We have to iron some things up at the plate."

Georgia managed just eight runs in the three game series against Texas. Entering the Texas series, Georgia had scored at least eight runs in eight of their last nine games.

"We'll get back to work. We showed fight. We took some punches, and we lost today. It's not easy. We'll get back on the horse and get ready for Presbyterian on Tuesday," added Wes Johnson.

Georgia hosts Presbyterian at 3:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 8 before the Bulldogs play a three-game home series against the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks (30-3, 11-1) from Friday, April 11 to Sunday, April 13.
