Tennessee basketball receives SEC transfer commitment

Tennessee received its second basketball commitment from the NCAA transfer portal during the 2025 offseason. Former Vanderbilt forward Jaylen Carey committed to the Vols on Sunday.

The 6-foot-8, 265-pound forward averaged eight points and 5.7 rebounds per game with the Commodores during the 2024-25 season.

Tennessee is Carey's third school in as many seasons. He transferred to Vanderbilt, along with head coach Mark Byington, from James Madison.

Carey's father, Vernon Carey Sr., played for the Dolphins in the NFL. His brother, Vernon Carey Jr., played basketball at Duke in 2020.

With Carey and former Maryland point guard Ja'Kobi Gillespie committed, Tennessee now has six available scholarships.

Elyjah Freeman

Small forward Elyjah Freeman played his freshman season at Division II Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tennessee. He averaged 18.9 points and 8.7 points per game, while shooting 45.6 percent from three-point range with the Railsplitters.

Freeman is also drawing attention from Indiana and Kentucky.

Alvaro Folgueiras

Former Robert Morris forward Alvaro Folgueiras is a target for Tennessee.

He averaged 14.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest, while shooting 41.3 percent with the Colonials. Kentucky is also interested in Folgueiras.
