This is good to see -- New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed that the team will return to Louisiana for training camp in 2025 after spending las summer in Irvine, Calif., which will give local fans many opportunities to see their favorite team in person again.
But Moore added an interesting aside. Speaking with reporters at the NFC coaches breakfast during spring owners meetings from Palm Beach, Fla., he says the Saints are also looking into holding joint practices with other teams during the preseason: "We're looking at some potential, too, see if we can go somewhere else for a shorter period of time this year. ... Yeah, potentially joint practices. We'll have to get that as we go."
It's a good call to make. Practicing with other teams for two or three days at a time gives your coaches a chance to evaluate your players against unique opponents after they've spent a month pushing their teammates. Experiencing a new climate and a new environment can do a lot to help prepare your team for playing on the road.
We've seen the Saints compete in joint practices over the years with teams like the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans, among others. They were supposed to practice with the San Francisco 49ers last summer but an abundance of injuries prompted San Francisco to opt out. Typically you'll see teams schedule joint practices with one or two of their preseason opponents, and it would make sense for that trend to continue in 2025.
