Ohenba Asenso fired five goals into the cage Friday, sparking the Newark boys lacrosse team in a 12-7 victory against visiting Northmont.
Max Frost added three goals and an assist, Adam Tucker two goals and an assist and Drayson Peterson and Colton Loudermilk a goal apiece with Peterson notching two assists for the Wildcats (3-2), who scored six of the first seven goals in the second half to put it away. Landon Sifford made nine saves.
Johnstown wins on road
Will Taylor racked up six goals, lifting Johnstown to a 7-5 victory at Dayton Carroll.
A.J. Hollis also scored, and Logan Smith, Jason Hettinger, and Warren Miller each recorded an assist. Dominic Ortman caused four turnovers, and Ben Smith made 13 saves as the Johnnies (3-2) held high-scoring Quinn Tucker to two goals.
Granville edged on road
Davis Williamson made six saves for Granville in a 6-4 loss at DeSales on Thursday.
Rory McShane fielded four ground balls, leading the defensive effort. Noble Terebuh recorded a goal and an assist for the Blue Aces (0-4), and Titus Terebuh, Bobby Higginbotham and Evan Spiker also scored.
SOFTBALL
Valley beats Northridge
Dani Lambert and Taylor Penick recorded two hits, two runs and three RBIs apiece Friday, fueling the Licking Valley softball team in a 16-0 victory against visiting Northridge (4-3, 0-1) in Licking County League play.
Tori Baughman added two hits, two runs and an RBI and Emory Whisner a double and four RBIs for the Panthers (5-2, 2-0). Whisner also struck out four of the six batters she faced.
Watkins beats Utica
Gracie Gerhardt and Kendal Tellings each homered, combining for five hits and five RBIs in Watkins Memorial’s 12-0 victory against visiting Utica to begin LCL play.
Kylie Trouten added three hits, including two doubles, and two runs and Jacy Severance two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Warriors (3-1, 1-0). Severance also struck out four in a five-inning two-hit shutout.
Emily Meyers and Bethany Glancy each singled for Utica (2-3, 0-1).
