Roundup: Newark softball rolls past Groveport

Lexi Shanaberg homered and drove in three runs during a three-hit performance Monday, powering the Newark softball team to an 11-1 victory against visiting Groveport to begin Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Karma Wells was a perfect 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI, and Mallory Back added a hit, two runs and an RBI, Lilly Holmes a hit, a run and an RBI and Calyn Music and Audrey Lennon two runs apiece for the Wildcats (1-6, 1-0). Maygen Woody struck out eight and allowed four hits and no earned runs in six innings.

Liberty wins on road

Madison Looney homered and tripled, recording three hits and five RBIs in Liberty Christian’s 15-4 victory at Shekinah Christian to begin Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Jerynn Miller added two hits, including a double, and four runs, Vanessa Carroll two hits, a run and an RBI, and Audrey Soliday and Megan Evenson a hit and three runs apiece for the Eagles (1-2, 1-0). Miller struck out five in four innings.

Lakewood blanks Kilbourne 

Cora Redman hit one of four home runs for Lakewood in a 10-0 victory against visiting Worthington Kilbourne.

Redman drove in three runs, and Jaycie Montie, Kaydelyn Binion and Ashlyn Carder also homered with Carly Williams adding two hits and two runs for the Lancers (5-0). Averie Adams struck out five in five two-hit innings. 

Utica wins at home

Avery Rine notched three hits, including a double, a run and an RBI for Utica in a 16-3 victory against visiting East Knox.

Cheyenne Smith, Emily Meyers, Kaitlin Evans and Kiersten Hull each homered with Smith scoring four runs and Evans and Bethany Glancy three apiece for Utica (2-1). Hull struck out five in five innings.

BASEBALL 

Northridge wins on road

Collin Matheson struck out six in five two-hit scoreless innings of relief, pitching Northridge to a 5-2 victory at Northmor.

Noah Mason recorded two hits and two runs out of the leadoff spot for the Vikings (2-0). Matheson added two hits and a run and Brice Beaver and Riley Reeves a hit and an RBI apiece.

Liberty drops road game

Drew Fye singled for Liberty Christian (0-1, 0-1) in a 14-0 loss at Shekinah Christian in the MOCAL opener.

Watkins sweeps Zanesville

Watkins Memorial did not drop a set in a 5-0 victory against Zanesville.

Graham Smith, 6-0, 6-3, Michael Hare, 6-0, 6-0, and Wyatt Meade, 6-1, 6-0, won singles matches for the Warriors (1-0). Nathan Walter and Gavin Adelman, 6-1, 6-1, and Parker Carte and Chase Smith, 6-2, 6-0, won doubles matches.

Newark sweeps Fisher

Newark did not drop a set in a 5-0 victory at Fisher Catholic.

Evan Devries, 6-2, 6-3, Layton Shaner, 6-2, 6-2, and Kellan Grace, 6-0, 6-4, won singles matches for the Wildcats (2-0). Grayson Boyer and Viktor Gleckler, 6-2, 6-1, and Bradley Pastorius and Collin McCracken, 6-0, 6-0, won doubles matches.

Granville wins

Granville picked up a 5-0 victory against Pickerington North.

Sam Pfau, Purin Songrug and Ben Prokop won singles matches for the Blue Aces. Owen White and Kyle Kirby at No. 1 and Grant Timmons and Will Hickman at No. 2 won doubles matches.
