LSU basketball makes first transfer portal addition of the season

The men's college basketball transfer portal season is underway, and LSU just made its first addition of the year. Mississippi State transfer center Michael Nwoko committed to LSU on Monday.

Nwoko started 32 games with the Bulldogs in 2024-25. He averaged 6.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest, shooting .525 from the field. LSU will be Nwoko's third school in three years. He began his career at Miami before spending one year at Mississippi State.

Nwoko is leaving a solid Mississippi State team that made the NCAA Tournament and scored 79.5 points per game. He'll take a chance on a rebuilding LSU squad, where he hopes to play a central role in the Tigers' frontcourt.

According to On3, Nwoko was a four-star prospect coming out of high school in 2023. On3 rated Nwoko as the No. 18 center in the class and No. 17 ranked recruit in the state of California.

LSU is expected to be active in the transfer portal as the Tigers count on a stronger NIL budget to improve the roster.

Nwoko is a start, but LSU will continue to reshape the roster with additions in the coming days and weeks.
