The New York Giants have been stockpiling quarterbacks this offseason, first by retaining exclusive rights free agent (ERFA) Tommy DeVito and then adding free agent veterans Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson.
That won't exempt them from adding a young quarterback to the room via the 2025 NFL draft later this month. On Monday, general manager Joe Schoen told reporters at the league meeting in Palm Beach that the team can "go in any direction" with the No. 3 overall pick.
Schoen also said that any quarterback they select has to "check all of the boxes" and must meet the team's value requirements. Translation: He isn't going to force the pick.
That aside, the Giants have been doing their due diligence on all quarterbacks eligible in the draft. One player in particular, Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss, has attracted their attention.
ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports the Giants are doing "a lot of work" on Dart leading up to the draft, but he may not be worth the No. 3 overall selection.
It leaves doubt whether Sanders is that guy in the Giants' eyes or whether that quarterback exists in the second or third round. If New York passes on a quarterback with its first pick, the team could trade into the back end of the first round or look for a quarterback on Day 2.
The Giants have been doing a lot of work on Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart in recent weeks, a source told ESPN.
Dart has a lot of fine qualities, but few draft experts worth their salt see him as a high first round pick. The Giants have the second pick in Round 2 (No. 34 overall) and if Dart is still on the board at the juncture, he would be a possibility for the Giants.
