Steelers stick with QB in new ESPN mock draft

Prior to the start of free agency, the vast majority of mock drafts had the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting a wide receiver with their first-round pick. However, once the Steelers traded for wide receiver DK Metcalf, the picks were all over the place. But now, with just a few weeks to the 2025 NFL draft, there seems to be a new trend emerging and it is quarterback Jaxson Dart. Dart has become the trendy first-round pick for Pittsburgh and ESPN draft writer Fields Yates continued the trend in his new mock draft.

Here's what Yates had to say about the pick of Dart:

While it seems the Steelers are the most likely landing spot for Aaron Rodgers, signing him would not preclude them from looking toward the future at quarterback. Rodgers is 41 years old, and each coming season is a true year-to-year proposition. But Pittsburgh hasn't even signed Rodgers yet, meaning Mason Rudolph is the current QB1. Let's lock up another signal-caller for the Steelers here.

Dart broke Eli Manning's school record at Ole Miss for passing yards (4,279) and led the FBS in yards per attempt (10.8) in 2024. He has good mobility and accuracy, throwing 52 touchdowns and 11 interceptions over the past two seasons.

At this point, we are at peace with the idea of the Steelers selecting Dart, even if they sign Aaron Rodgers. Dart has a tremendous amount of talent and upside. His athleticism and mobility are a huge X factor for an offense that needs some spark and he plays with a ton of confidence in his abilities.
