Real Madrid remains undecided on defensive recruitment for next season – Romano
It is no secret that Real Madrid are carefully assessing their options regarding the centre-back position as they prepare for the upcoming transfer window.
In fact, according to Fabrizio Romano, the club has yet to determine whether they will make a new signing to strengthen their defence or continue relying on their current options.
At present, Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Eder Militao, and young prospect Raul Asencio form the core of their backline.
While this group has provided stability, injuries and long-term planning have prompted discussions within the club about whether additional reinforcements are necessary.
No decision regarding Huijsen
One of the most promising names on their radar is Dean Huijsen, a young defender with significant potential.
The club’s hierarchy views him as a highly professional and disciplined player, which makes him an attractive option for the future.
His ability to read the game, physical presence, and composure on the ball are traits that Real Madrid admire. Another factor that makes him an even more appealing prospect is his Spanish nationality.
The idea of adding another Spanish player to the squad, particularly alongside Asencio, aligns with the club’s long-term strategy of maintaining a strong domestic presence.
Despite this interest, no final decision has been made regarding their approach to the centre-back position.
Several targets on the agenda
Real Madrid have also been linked with several other defensive targets as they explore various possibilities. The club is closely monitoring players such as Jorrel Hato, Ibrahima Konate, Castello Lukeba, and William Saliba.
Each of these defenders brings unique qualities that could strengthen the team, but signing them would require overcoming significant financial and contractual hurdles.
Among all the options being considered, Huijsen appears to be the most realistic target. His rapid development and the possibility of negotiating a deal with relative ease make him a strong candidate.
If Real Madrid decide to invest in a new defender, Huijsen could be their priority in the coming months.
