MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Berlin Brothersvalley guard Coral Prosser has been a driving force for the Mountaineers’ success throughout the 2024-25 campaign.
The sophomore, already with over 1,000 career points, helped lead Berlin Brothersvalley to an Inter-County Conference title, a third consecutive District 5 crown and now, a chance to play for a PIAA Class 2A championship.

With the Mountaineers locked in a tight battle against District 2 champion Mountain View, Prosser scored all 16 of her team’s points in the fourth quarter to hold off a late Eagles charge and give Berlin Brothersvalley a 41-38 victory at Mechanicsburg Area High School.
“We just had to stay together and keep our confidence,” Prosser said. “The score doesn’t really affect us. We can get behind on the scoreboard, but we have the confidence to know what we’ll be able to get back in front.
“I honestly don’t care about scoring points. My teammates do such a great job of getting stops on defense, which gives us the confidence to knock down shots on offense. Any one of us can score points when they want to.”
The Mountaineers (27-2) will carry a 25-game winning streak into Thursday’s title tilt against District 6 champion Bishop McCort Catholic, a 55-53 winner over Penns Manor, at Giant Center in Hershey.
Berlin Brothersvalley, which won the Class 1A championship in 2019, defeated Bishop McCort 56-49 Dec. 12 at Pitt-Johnstown.
Prosser’s older brother, Pace, now a standout guard at Gannon University, played in three state title games while at Berlin Brothersvalley.
Thursday will give Coral, as well as her freshman sister Bryn, the opportunity for another Prosser to play for a gold medal.
“He (Pace) said, ‘Since I couldn’t do it, I guess you guys have to,’ ” Coral Prosser said with a laugh. “That’s part of my goal, just to get there, and keep the family tradition going.”
Coral Prosser scored 31 of her team’s 41 points, which included a 20-for-26 mark at the free-throw line.
She posted a 12-for-16 clip at the charity stripe and added two buckets in the fourth quarter to help keep the Eagles (24-5) at bay.
“It’s unbelievable,” Berlin Brothersvalley coach Rachel Prosser said. “I’m just so happy for all of these girls after all of the hard work they’ve put in. They wanted to play in Hershey so bad, and they were willing to do anything to get there.”
Berlin Brothersvalley carried a 25-22 lead into the fourth after Coral Prosser knocked down a mid-range jumper just before the third-quarter buzzer.
Mountain View then opened the fourth by scoring nine of the first 10 points to move in front 31-26.
Coral Prosser answered with back-to-back and-one’s to give the Mountaineers a 32-31 advantage. She followed by drawing a charge on the next possession to keep the momentum with Berlin Brothersvalley, which never trailed again.
Prosser’s free throws salted the game away for the Mountaineers.
“Coral is playing with a purpose,” Rachel Prosser said. “Her teammates are there for her. She adjusted, we adjusted, and we just did enough to win tonight. I’m very proud of everyone for getting the job done.”
The big night at the charity stripe aided the Mountaineers in overcoming a 9-for-44 shooting tally on offense.
In turn, Berlin Brothersvalley forced 30 Mountain View turnovers with its high-pressure defense. The Eagles matched their turnover total in field-goal attempts, making 14 of 30.
“We’ve been working on doing what it takes to stop them during practice all week,” Mountaineers junior Mercy Sechler said. “We knew we had to play our hardest. We believe that we can compete with anyone we face when we play our game.”
Mountain View junior Addison Kilmer led the Eagles with 20 points.
Kilmer, the 2024 Class 1A player of the year, was held to just four points in the first half, when Berlin Brothersvalley held a 16-15 lead at the break.
The Eagles recorded 11 giveaways in the first quarter and another six in the second.
“We knew coming in that (Mountain View) was a great team,” Rachel Prosser said. “That’s what won it for us was the defense, because we weren’t hitting our shots on offense.”
Defense will be key in the Mountaineers’ upcoming bout with Bishop McCort.
The Crimson Crushers have scored 70 or more points in seven games. Berlin Brothersvalley has allowed more than 50 just six times in their 29 contests.
“Like they say, defense wins championships,” Coral Prosser said. “We’re on our way there right now. We’ve talked about our defense the whole year. We know what we’ll have to do to get it done.”
