Fourth-quarter scoring barrage leads Berlin past Marion Catholic in PIAA 2A quarterfinal
GETTYSBURG — Trailing by five entering the fourth quarter of its PIAA Class 2A girls basketball quarterfinal, Friday, Berlin Brothersvalley needed a spark against Marian Catholic.
Freshman Bryn Prosser ignited a scoring barrage with a pair of threes, lighting up the Gettysburg High School gymnasium as the Mountaineers rallied for a 57-46 victory, advancing to the state semifinals for the second time in three years.
"These girls are learning life lessons, here, and they are learning them together," said Berlin coach Rachel Prosser. "They had to determine they were going to win this game, and they were the only ones who could do it. They had to destroy excuses. There were no more excuses. I'm very impressed with their drive, their energy and their teamwork."

Berlin (26-2) held Marian Catholic without a bucket until just over a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, following its 16-0 spree. Coral Prosser, who dropped a game-high 27 points, tallied five points during the surge. Lexi Foor nailed a corner three and Elena Ritchey netted a bucket inside.
Ritchey finished with 13 points while Foor added seven. Bryn Prosser contributed eight in the game. Coral Prosser, who topped 1,000 points in the second-round win over York Catholic, found out after the victory Friday she eclipsed the milestone.
"You can't score any points without your teammates," Coral Prosser said. "I thank all of them for everything."
The sophomore, who played with three fouls for much of the game, delivered the goods along with a collaborative team effort on both ends of the floor.
"(Coach Prosser) said at the end of the third quarter that we had to decide if we wanted to come out and win this game," Coral Prosser said. "That's exactly what we did. My sister and I talked. She hit the first three, and we said, 'We're back. We're coming back.' We started rolling from there, and we knew what we had to do to close it out."
Berlin led 9-7 after one in a defensive battle.
The scoring opened up in the second, and the Mountaineers held a 21-20 advantage at the break following a Coral Prosser long three at the buzzer.
Marian Catholic (23-5) controlled the third. Junior Addison Fritz recorded all 14 of her points in the frame, including four 3-pointers, giving the Fillies a 41-36 lead after three.
Fellow junior Olivia Serfass scored 14 points for Marian Catholic.
The resilient Mountaineers were dominant in the fourth. Four threes during the run electrified the Berlin faithful. A juggernaut defense held the Fillies to just five points in the quarter.
It was Berlin's 24th straight victory. Berlin meets District 2 champ Mountain View, a 32-14 victor over Williams Valley, in the PIAA semifinals on Friday.
"I am really excited to go into this next week, spend time with my teammates, go through practices and be in school together," Coral Prosser said. "Just being able to experience this all together is really exciting and good for all of us."
