Packers hosting Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka on official pre-draft visit

The Green Bay Packers continue to do homework on top wide receivers in this year's draft. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Packers are hosting Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka on Monday and Tuesday for a top-30 visit.

Regarded as one of the top prospects, Egbuka is ranked as the 33rd overall prospect and third overall receiver on the NFL Consensus Board. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah ranked Egbuka 17th and the second overall receiver on his top 50 prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft.

In four seasons at Ohio State, Egbuka finished with 205 receptions for 2,868 yards (14.0 ypc) and 24 receiving touchdowns. In 2024, he joined Marvin Harrison Jr. as the only Buckeyes to have two 1,000-yard receiving seasons in school history. His 205 receptions are a school record, and he ranks in the top 10 in school history for both receiving yards (second) and receiving touchdowns (seventh).

As far as his skill set and play style, Egbuka has the potential to be a premier slot receiver in the NFL. He has drawn comparisons to former Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who was taken 20th overall by Seattle in 2023. Per Pro Football Focus, over 73 percent of Egbuka's snaps came from the slot.

What that could mean for Jayden Reed—Green Bay's leading slot receiver the past two seasons—is unclear. Reed had more experience on the outside in college (49.9 percent of his snaps) but that total has dropped to 21.2 percent in the pros. He has also struggled against press coverage. Egbuka has better separation skills than Reed and is also the bigger receiver at 6-1, 202 lbs.

Wide receiver remains a significant need for the Packers entering the draft. Their only addition in free agency was Mecole Hardman, who has recently been limited to gadget plays and return duties.

Regardless of who lines up where, adding Egbuka would provide a significant boost to the talent level of the room. He is a polished route runner with reliable hands and run-after-catch ability. In addition to being an elite receiver, Egbuka is an elite run-blocker, checking another one of Green Bay's boxes.

Egbuka is the second first-round hopeful at receiver the Packers recently hosted. Last week, they hosted speedy Texas wideout Matthew Golden.

Green Bay hasn't drafted a receiver in the first round since 2002 but would likely have to break that streak to land either Egbuka or Golden. Interestingly, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst appears open to the idea.

“I don’t think we’d ever hesitate to take a receiver in the first round if the right one was there,” Gutekunst said to local beat writers at the Scouting Combine. “We certainly talked about it at different times in the last seven years since I’ve been in this spot, trying to make that happen.”
