Mangold tosses perfecto; Fort Hill, Petersburg sweeps; Moorefield, East Hardy split

FRANKLIN, W.Va. — Frankfort's Rylee Mangold tossed a five-inning perfect game Saturday in an 8-0 rout of Pendleton County.

The right-handed Concord commit fanned 12 of the 15 batters she set down in order.

Avery Noel (Liberty) belted a two-run homer to lead the offense, Adison Pritts (Potomac State) went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI, Tayler Likens (Kent State) doubled and scored twice, and Claire Westfall drove in a pair.

Baylee Beachler took the loss for Pendleton County.

Frankfort also defeated Mountain Ridge, 10-1, on Friday, plating eight runs in the second inning to win in five frames.

Pritts homered, Likens tripled and doubled, Westfall tripled and singled, Raley Nestor and Aubrie Root doubled, and Mangold and Riley Lynch had two base hits each.

Noel earned the win in the circle, allowing a run on one hit with seven strikeouts and no walks in four innings pitched.

Jordan Burris took the loss for Mountain Ridge. Sophie Rounds doubled for the Miners.

Frankfort (3-0) is at No. 5 Petersburg (2-0) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Ridge has a doubleheader at Hancock on Monday.

Fort Hill 5, No. 4 Northern 3

CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill plated five runs in the first two innings, and MaeLeigh Plummer tossed a complete game to defeat No. 4 Northern on Friday.

Plummer, a James Madison track signee, allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits in seven frames of work, fanning four and walking two to earn the win in the circle.

Plummer also tripled twice and drove in two runs, Tatum Bishop was 3 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored, and Haley Metz also tripled.

Northern's Bailey Champlin took the loss, though only one of the five runs tabbed to her over 3 2/3 innings were earned.

Rain Ritchey threw 2 1/3 scoreless frames of relief, fanning six and walking none on one hit.

Champlin had two singles at the plate, and Demi Ross hit a home run.

Fort Hill (1-0) hosts Southern on Monday at 4:30 p.m. Northern (0-1) is at Hancock on Wednesday.

No. 5 Petersburg 17-13, Berkeley Springs 1-0

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg rolled to a pair of run-rule routs on Saturday in its opener.

The Vikings (2-0) plated 17 runs in the first inning of the doubleheader en route to a three-inning romp.

Addison Kitzmiller tripled and drove in three runs, Miley Tingler had a double and two RBIs, and Quenlynn Cole and Ella Markwell had two ribbies each.

Olivia Kimble earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in three innings.

Scotlyn Forney took the loss for the Indians. Alaira Harrington and Hailey Adkins doubled at the plate.

In Game 2, Petersburg broke a scoreless game with seven runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to win in five frames.

Markwell homered and doubled as part of a 3-for-3, four-RBI outing. Tingler tripled, doubled and had four ribbies herself, and Kimble added a two-bagger.

Gracie Carpenter got the win pitching, tossing four shutout innings of one-hit ball with six Ks and a walk.

Harrington was dealt the loss for Berkeley Springs.

Petersburg hosts No. 1 Frankfort (3-0) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Moorefield 3-13, Springs Mills 8-9

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Moorefield dropped Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday but rebounded to earn the twinbill split

Moorefield (1-3) scored three runs in the first inning, four in the second and two in the third to take control of the second game, and it tacked on three more runs in the seventh to secure a 13-9 win.

Kerigan Bergdall homered and scored four times for the Yellow Jackets, and CiCi Kump, Gracie Simmons and Seanna Heavner had three base hits apiece.

Brenna See tripled, Heavner doubled twice, and Emmy Crites and Simmons had a double each.

Raleigh Kuykendall was the winning arm, allowing nine runs (three earned) on eight hits with 11 strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.

Chloe Munson took the loss for Spring Mills. Alexis Wagner and Taryn Close both tripled.

Spring Mills jumped out to a 7-1 lead to take Game 1, 8-3.

See and Carlee Haines both doubled for Moorefield, and Heavner and See recorded a pair of hits each.

Simmons took the loss for Moorefield.

Spring Mills' Claire Wetzel went the distance, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits in seven frames, fanning five and issuing three free passes.

Moorefield is at Strasburg, Virginia, on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

East Hardy falls to Martinsburg, beats Luray

East Hardy defeated Luray, Virginia, 9-6, Friday to open the season but fell to Martinsburg, 11-7, on Saturday.

The Cougars (1-1) plated five runs in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie Friday, as Madison Strosnider's two-run long ball was the go-ahead tally.

Strosnider also doubled and went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Chelsea Mills, Ginger Combs and Gracie Heishman added doubled. Mills had two hits.

Strosnider was the winning arm, throwing a complete game in which she allowed six runs (one earned) on three hits with 16 strikeouts and four walks.

Martinsburg scored seven runs in the third inning Saturday to take control in an 11-7 victory.

Danayja Williams was the winning pitcher, allowing seven runs on 12 hits in seven innings, and she added a triple and double at the plate.

Strosnider belted another home run, Combs doubled twice and Taylor McReynolds added a double.

Combs was tabbed with the loss.

East Hardy hosts Tucker County on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
