Blue Devils roll past East Robertson behind Collins’ no-hitter
Lebanon opened the Wilson County Invitational on Monday with an 11-0 shutout of East Robertson as Case Collins pitched a five-inning no-hitter at Brent Foster Field.
The right-hander struck out seven and walked one. He survived a first-and-third situation in the first inning created by a game-opening error and a hit batter by striking out a hitter before interference was called on the hitter as the runner was attempting to steal second, resulting in a double play.
Lebanon scored early and often. Evan Driver’s RBI single staked the Blue Devils to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Carson Fox doubled in two runs, Jordan Jewell tripled home another and Scout Loftis’ groundout to first plated Jewell as the Blue Devils built a 6-0 lead in the second inning.
Jewell had half of Lebanon’s four hits as he and Fox drove in two runs each. The Blue Devils also drew six walks.
Lebanon hosted Gallatin yesterday. The Blue Devils will welcome Sullivan East to Foster Field at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Station Camp 24 hours later and Providence Christian at 10 a.m. Saturday to wrap up the Invitational.
Purple Tigers’ Major shuts out MontereyWATERTOWN — Zeb Major pitched a three-hit shutout Monday night as Watertown shut out Monterey 5-0 to begin a two-game District 5-2A series.
The left-hander struck out nine, hit one and walked none while throwing 87 pitches in seven innings as the Purple Tigers moved to 6-0.
Watertown scored in the first and third innings and put the Wildcats away with three in the fourth.
The Purple Tigers had nine hits. Noah Murphy went 3-for-3 with a double while Garrett Davis went 2-for-2 from the No. 9 hole.
Watertown went to Monterey last night. The Tigers will host Liberty Creek at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Gordonsville at 6 p.m. Friday and Dickson County at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Wilson County Invitational.
Craver pitches shutout as Green Hill run-rules Station CampMT. JULIET — Corbin Craver pitched a five-inning three-hit shutout Monday night as Green Hill opened the Wilson County Invitational with a 13-0 thumping of visiting Station Camp on the Hill.
Craver walked two, hit one and struck out six.
Green Hill scored in every inning after the first, finishing with eight hits in the 4 1/2-inning contest.
Gabe Gray drove in two runs on a triple and single while Xander Jackson and Jackson Hines each doubled and drove in two runs.
Green Hill hosted Wilson Central last night and will entertain Dickson County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, DeKalb County 24 hours later and Sullivan East at 11 a.m. Saturday to wrap up the Invitational.
Watertown outscores Morristown East in East Tennessee finaleMORRISTOWN — Watertown wrapped up its East Tennessee trip last Friday by outscoring host Morristown West 13-8.
The Purple Tigers built a 3-0 lead midway through the third inning before the Trojans went in front 4-3 in the fourth. But Watertown regained control with six scores in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh, more than enough to withstand West’s four in the sixth.
Watertown outhit West 12-7 but also committed five errors to the Trojans’ four.
Bo Price drove in two runs for the Tigers on a double and single while Aiden Dedman and C.J. Young also had two RBI apiece. Noah Murphy, Avery Davis and Zeb Major had two hits apiece as they and Garrett Davis doubled.
Logan Vance pitched the first four innings for the win. Price worked the next two before Murphy tossed the seventh.
Purple Tigers double up Seymour
SEYMOUR — Watertown doubled up host Seymour 6-3 last Friday in the Playing For A Cure tournament.
The Purple Tigers jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning to lift River Brim to victory. Brim allowed two runs in the third inning and one in the sixth before being lifted. He allowed four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five-plus frames. Wyatt Phillips and Zeb Major each worked an inning to finish the five-hitter.Watertown finished with eight hits, including doubes by Phillips, Bo Price and Noah Murphy. Murphy and Avery Davis each drove in two runs on as many hits.
