East Hardy into Final 4 after 51-34 win over Clay-Battelle
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — No. 3 East Hardy booked its second straight Final Four berth Thursday, routing sixth-seeded Clay-Battelle, 51-34, in the Class A state quarterfinals at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
The Cougars (20-5) led 13-11 after the first quarter, breaking the game open with a 17-5 second period to forge ahead 30-16 at the half. They led 41-24 after three quarters.
Evan Hamilton led the Cougars with 20 points, hitting four 3-pointers to go along with five steals; Jordan Teets added 14 points and also hit four triples, Joseph Price scored nine points; and Mason Hamilton tallied four points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Big man Gideon Good recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds and 11 blocks.
Preston Luzader led Clay-Battelle with 11 points and eight rebounds.
East Hardy made the state semifinals last year before falling to Tug Valley, 52-39, at that stage. The Cougars lost to Tucker County in the quarterfinals two seasons ago.
East Hardy faces rival Tucker County (20-2) in the semifinals on Friday at 9 p.m.
Tucker swept the Cougars, 59-40 and 53-42, during the regular season.
