Late rally lifts Morehead past Wolfpack
Three runs in the top of the seventh inning propelled the visiting Eden Morehead varsity baseball team to a 7-6 Mid State 2-A conference win over Walkertown on Friday night. The Wolfpack took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The game was tied 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning, and Walkertown took a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning.
Morehead’s Tanner Rippey got the last out in the sixth inning and closed out the game to get the win on the mound after the Panthers rallied in the seventh inning. Caden Joyce pitched the first five innings for Walkertown and had five strikeouts.
The Wolfpack’s Devin Blodgett was 3-for-4 at the plate, Aaron Hester was 2-for-4 with a double. Wesley Tompkins was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Cam Smith was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Walkertown (9-2, 3-1 MS 2-A) will host McMichael (8-2, 3-1 MS 2-A) tonight at 6 p.m.
