No. 4 FSU baseball claims ACC opener with 4 home runs in 8-2 win over Boston College
Florida State baseball hit four home runs Friday night to open ACC play with an 8-2 win over Boston College.
The No. 4 Seminoles (16-1) bounced back from its midweek loss to Florida with authority, hitting eight extra base hits against the Eagles, including the four homers.
Drew Faurot kicked off the home run party with a solo shot, his fifth of the year, in the second inning, sending the ball 426 feet over the right field wall to give FSU a 1-0 lead. Faurot added a second home run in the eighth for his sixth home run, a team high. It matches his home run total from last season.
Each homer came from a different side of the plate, with Faurot displaying his switch-hitting power.
Hunter Carns added a double later in the second inning, just missing a home run to right field, bouncing the ball off the wall.
The Seminoles followed with a pair of two-run home runs in consecutive innings to blow the game open.
In the third, Myles Bailey hit his fifth home run of the season with a 360-foot opposite-field two-run blast. Just an inning later, Alex Lodise got in on the act, hitting a two-run home run to right field to give the Seminoles a 6-1 advantage.
Lodise added a double to finish the night 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The long ball gave Joey Volini a cushion to work with as he won his fifth game as a starter. He threw six innings and struck out eight while allowing one earned run. Peyton Prescott replaced Volini, and he threw two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Ben Barrett closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts and one earned run.
FSU added a run in the seventh off a Cal Fisher double. He scorched a line drive down the right field line and scored Gage Harrelson.
Harrelson went 2-for-4 on the day, continuing his streak of recording a hit in every game this season.
The Seminoles will play a doubleheader on Saturday in an attempt to avoid potentially severe weather in the Tallahassee area on Sunday.
Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. and Jamie Arnold is expected to start.
