Eagles rally to claim win over Glenn
The East Forsyth varsity baseball team rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game and the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 5-4 victory over visiting Central Piedmont 4-A conference and crosstown rival Glenn on Friday night.
The Bobcats took control in the top of the first inning with three runs. Logan Stump hit a two-run homer, and an error on a play later in the inning gave Glenn a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, East’s Ashton Fields was hit by a pitch. A double by Eben Greene put runners on second and third base and Fields scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-1.
The score stayed the same for the next four innings due to solid pitching from both teams, Eagles Head Coach Drew Dull said.
“Peyton Crews went four innings for us. He did his job and kept us in the game. He did exactly what I asked him to do. Brodie Lenhart came in and pitched the last three innings and got the win. He only gave up one hit and struck out four,” he said. “Stump pitched really well for them. He started and went six innings. I told him when he came out of the game and went to third base that he did everything he could to give them a win. He pitched out of jams, and the home run gave them a lot of momentum.”
Glenn took a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning. After a double, a ground out advanced the runner to third base and the Bobcats scored on a passed ball.
In the top of the sixth inning, East’s Jordan Turner drew a lead-off walk. Greene followed with a single, and a fielder’s choice hit by Dalton Davsko put runners on first and third base with two outs.
Ray Hutchens then hit a fly ball to right field between second and first base. Glenn’s second baseman tried to make the play to end the inning, but the ball just came off his glove, and two runs came in. A wild pitch brought in the tying run for East Forsyth.
In the seventh inning, the Eagles’ Craig McGhee was walked.
A sacrifice bunt by Fields moved him to second base. Turner was intentionally walked, and a single by Greene brought in the game-winning run.
East Forsyth improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play with the win. The Eagles will host Parkland on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and will play away against Parkland on Friday at 7 p.m. Glenn dropped to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the CP 4-A. The Bobcats will play away against Reynolds on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will host Reynolds on Friday at 6 p.m.
