A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered a comprehensive update on Hansi Flick and his talks with Barcelona surrounding a new contract.
Recent reports suggest Flick is ready to renew his contract until 2027, but anything beyond that will require further evaluation from the German when the time comes.
Nevertheless, Flick has set forth a series of conditions in order for him to commit to a new contract at Barcelona.
Flick’s 2026 request for Barcelona
Among many of his requests, one of them includes the signing of a goalkeeper and a striker in the summer of 2026.
Both Flick and Deco are clear about the fact that the club require reinforcements in these two positions, but not for the immediate future.
Indeed, it is interesting that Flick doesn’t want to sign any goalkeeper or striker next summer. That is largely because the two positions are already covered for next season, thanks to Robert Lewandowski and Wojciech Szczesny.
Szczesny is ready to continue at Camp Nou for another year following an exceptional season. The same stands for Lewandowski as well, with Flick more than confident in his abilities to lead the Barcelona frontline for yet another campaign.
At 36, Lewandowski has already broken a series of records, including Ferenc Puskas’ record of scoring the most number of La Liga goals after turning 36.
However, the report suggests neither of these players are likely to stay at Barcelona beyond 2027. Therefore, Barcelona would ideally require long-term replacements by the summer of 2026.
While Flick is satisfied with Ferran Torres’ performances, he believes the team needs a more natural number nine to replace Lewandowski in the long run.
As for the goalkeeping position, Marc-Andre ter Stegen might not stay for long, while Szczesny will stay at Barça for only one more season. The club, therefore, must sign someone to add more depth to the position.
