Former Colorado quarterback calls out Shedeur Sanders' criticism as 'lazy journalism'

Shedeur Sanders has been a polarizing prospect throughout the entire draft process. Some teams, even one in the top-3, view the Colorado quarterback as a phenomenal talent on and off the field, while others see him as a less-than-special athlete not worthy of even a first-round selection.

Former Colorado quarterback and current Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt has always believed in what Shedeur and Deion Sanders brought to Colorado football. He was quick to defend Shedeur this week when on Colin Cowherd's show "The Herd."

Klatt, who saw Sanders play in person several times, believes he should be a top 5 or 6 pick in the draft.

"I think Shedeur is an incredible player," Klatt said. "I think he is, and should be, a top-five or six pick in the draft. I think what people fail to realize is that he was doing at the college level what he is going to be asked to do at the NFL level."

Klatt makes a great point. Shedeur performed in college exactly how any NFL team will want him to perform during his rookie season. He says that Sanders played on a team in 2023, where he was the best player on the field. Will Howard, for example, who recently won a national championship with Ohio State, was nowhere close to being the top player on his team.

Sanders turned a 1-11 football team into a 9-4 team within two seasons, largely because he elevated everyone around him. That makes him special and deserving of being selected in the top 5.

Klatt also went into the media, calling out draft experts as "lazy."

The draft media, or certain individuals within the league, who are never going to draft this player [Sanders] to begin with, start perpetuating these myths and these untruths about these players," Klatt said. "To be honest with you, I think that this type of storyline is lazy. It's rinse and repeat every year. You take the guy that is the most controversial in the draft, and then we have to end up talking about this exact subject because of lazy journalism and a big-mouth scout. That's what happens every single year."

Clearly, the former CU quarterback has Shedeur's back, but it does beg the question of why Shedeur was the prospect the "lazy" journalists or "big-mouth scout" picked on as the controversial prospect. There are certainly more "qualified" prospects out there.

Sanders has only ever brought positive results to Colorado football. After winning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, he proved that he has all the necessary on-field talent.

In Joel Klatt's opinion, any NFL team lucky enough to get Shedeur in their building will have an "incredible ...
