Tim Sherwood labelled Moises Caicedo a “diamond” following Chelsea’s win against Tottenham on Thursday evening.
The Blues picked up a huge three points against their rivals with Enzo Fernandez heading home the only goal of the game in the second half.
The win moved Chelsea back into the top four after they dropped out following wins for Manchester City and Newcastle on Wednesday evening.
Sherwood praises Caicedo
Chelsea were handed a boost with Nicolas Jackson returning to the starting line-up for the first time in two months, with Cole Palmer also featuring.
However, it was the midfield pair of Caicedo and Fernandez who really stood out, with Maresca hailing the Ecuadorian as one of the best midfielders in the world.
It wasn’t just Maresca who had praise for Caicedo, as former Spurs manager Sherwood described the 23-year-old as a “diamond.”
“Caicedo is a diamond of a player,” he said as quoted by Metro.
“He breaks up so many attacks, he sits in that midfield, for [Levi] Colwill and [Trevoh] Chalobah tonight he must’ve been a dream.
“He was just in there and giving it to players who can play in front of him, the likes of Enzo, Cole Palmer, [Pedro] Neto, always threatens in behind even though it wasn’t his best game, they’ve got Nicolas Jackson back.
“They need to finish in the top five otherwise it’s not a very good season for them.”
Caicedo has shown just how good he is this season, and despite costing a British record £115m he is now showing that was money well spent.
