Apr. 3—GRAND FORKS — New UND head men's hockey coach Dane Jackson signed a term sheet Saturday night, spelling out some details that will be included in his final contract.
Jackson signed a five-year deal. It starts with a $400,000 base salary in Year 1. It increases by $15,000 per year throughout the deal.
Jackson also gets bonuses for winning National Collegiate Hockey Conference championships ($5,000), reaching the NCAA tournament ($10,000), advancing to the NCAA Frozen Four ($25,000) and winning the national championship ($50,000).
He also has bonuses for winning the NCHC's Herb Brooks Coach of the Year award ($5,000) and the Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year honor ($10,000).
Jackson's base salary is less than Brad Berry's deal.
Berry was scheduled to make $493,500 in base salary this upcoming season. UND will buy out that year.
Jackson won't reach that amount during his five-year deal. He will be at $460,000 in his final year, 2029-30.
Jackson's full contract is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
Jackson, an assistant coach for the last 19 years, was named head coach Saturday night. He replaces Berry, who was let go after a decade at the helm.
