Apr. 1—GRAND FORKS — Dillon Simpson will remain as a UND men's hockey assistant coach.
Simpson will be part of new head coach Dane Jackson's staff for the 2025-26 season, the Herald has confirmed with multiple sources.
Jackson is expected to address his staff at a press conference Thursday morning.
Simpson has been on the UND hockey staff for the last two seasons.
He was hired by former head coach Brad Berry in the summer of 2023, when college hockey teams were allowed to add a third full-time assistant coach.
Simpson was selected after an open search.
He has been working with the team's defensemen.
Simpson, 32, played four seasons at UND from 2010-14, serving as team captain as a senior. He helped UND reach NCAA Frozen Fours as a freshman and a senior.
The defenseman from Edmonton played nine seasons of pro hockey — mostly in the American Hockey League.
He played four NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers. He had AHL stints in Oklahoma City, Bakersfield (Calif.) and Cleveland. He captained Cleveland during his last two seasons.
Simpson retired from playing to take the UND job.
On Monday, Jackson let go of assistant Karl Goehring, who had been on staff as a full-time coach since 2019 working with the goaltenders and power play.
UND needs to fill two assistant coaching spots.
One job posting went up Tuesday. It closes at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday.
