Devils Lake's Wylee Delorme to transfer to UND

Apr. 2—GRAND FORKS — The UND men's basketball program has started the process of rebuilding the roster for next season.

On Monday, Devils Lake native Wylee Delorme announced he'll transfer from the University of Mary to UND.

Delorme, a 6-foot-6 wing, was an all-state selection as a senior in high school in 2023-24. He was a Mr. Basketball finalist and helped the Firebirds to a state championship.

"I know (UND coach Paul Sather) is a really good coach and respected around the area," Delorme said.

Delorme's freshman season at Mary took a drastic turn late in the year. After seeing limited minutes much of the year, Delorme played 19 or more minutes in the final five games of the year — a stretch kick-started by a 32-point performance against Minnesota State-Moorhead in which Delorme was 5-for-7 from 3-point range and 11-for-11 from the foul line.

After the breakout performance against Moorhead, Delorme finished the year with double-figures scoring in three of the next four games.

"I definitely had my ups and downs," Delorme said of his rookie season. "I didn't play at the beginning of the year. Coach wanted me to get better on the defensive end. When he played me, I showed some offensive flashes."

Delorme plans to arrive in Grand Forks at the end of May ahead of June workouts. He describes himself as a versatile player.

"I can guard one through four defensively," he said. "I can score. That's probably my best attribute — getting to the rim and shooting threes."

Delorme has spent time training with former UND guard Treysen Eaglestaff, who recently announced he'll play his final season at South Carolina.

"He's like my big brother," Delorme said. "He definitely has showed me a couple of tricks or two. I've been working out with him in Bismarck whenever I get the chance.

"I'm definitely proud of him. He's deserving of what's coming for him. He's worked hard to get to that point."

The Fighting Hawks will look to replace the majority of the regular rotation from last season. In addition to Eaglestaff, Mier Panoam, Amar Kuljuhovic, Dariyus Woodson, Deng Mayar and Mambourou Mara have entered the transfer portal.

The lone returning regulars are Eli King and Zach Kraft.
