NCHC Rookie of the Year Sacha Boisvert among trio of UND players hitting transfer portal

Mar. 31—GRAND FORKS — Three UND players are hitting the NCAA transfer portal.

National Collegiate Hockey Conference Rookie of the Year Sacha Boisvert, sophomore forward Jayden Perron and junior forward Owen McLaughlin entered the portal on Monday morning, one day after it opened for non-graduates.

All three have "do not contact" designations on their entries, signaling that they already know their destination or they've narrowed it down.

Boisvert, a 6-foot-2, 176-pound center, led UND in scoring with 18 goals and 32 points.

Earlier this month, Boisvert became the fourth UND player to win NCHC Rookie of the Year since the league's formation in 2013-14. He joined Brock Boeser in 2015-16, Shane Pinto in 2019-20 and Jackson Blake in 2022-23.

Boisvert is a first-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Perron, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound forward from Winnipeg, scored 10 goals and tallied 19 points in 31 games this season. He was particularly effective in man-advantage situations. He tallied 13 of his 19 points at 6-on-5, 5-on-4 or 4-on-3 situations.

Perron is a third-round draft pick by the Carolina Hurricanes.

During his two seasons at UND, Perron scored 21 goals and tallied 37 points in 70 games.

Perron will have two years of eligibility remaining.

McLaughlin, a 6-foot, 178-pound forward from Spring City, Pa., scored five goals and tallied 30 points in 38 games this season.

McLaughlin started his career at center, but was moved to wing as a junior.

McLaughlin is a seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers.

During his three seasons at UND, McLaughlin scored 20 goals and had 84 points in 114 games.

UND announced Dane Jackson as its new head coach Saturday night. Jackson replaces Brad Berry, who was let go after a 10-year run at the helm.

Two players have committed to returning in sophomore defenseman Jake Livanavage and junior forward Dylan James.

One other player left early for an NHL deal — sophomore defenseman Caleb MacDonald.
