Third Georgia basketball player enters transfer portal

A third Georgia Bulldogs basketball player is entering the transfer portal. On3 reports that senior forward RJ Godfrey is seeking a transfer. He joins rising junior guards Silas Demary and De’Shayne Montgomery as Georgia basketball players that are in the portal and likely transferring out since the 2024-2025 season ended.

Following in his father Randall Godfrey's, who played at Georgia (1992-1996), footsteps, Godfrey spent one season at Georgia. He transferred from Clemson, where he played his first two years, and was recruited by Georgia head coach Mike White.

During his sole season at Georgia, the North Gwinnett High School alumnus was a consistent starter, averaging 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He began his Bulldogs career strongly, recording a double-double in his debut and scoring in double figures in two of his first three games. However, he reached double-digit points only eight times throughout the entire season.

Next year's Georgia team will have to fill the voids being left by departing players via their recruiting class and the transfer portal. Mike White has found success in the transfer portal for the past two offseasons at Georgia.

Expect White to go and find the talent that can help replace some of Georgia's significant lost production (six of Georgia's seven leading scorers are projected to leave). White and Georgia have a vital offseason ahead with all of UGA's departing pieces after the Dawgs made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade.
