Justin Jefferson recently got a glimpse into what could become a reality with his new quarterback.
After a fan asked Jefferson to substitute J.J. McCarthy into his Madden lineup during a live stream, the All-Pro receiver decided to test the rookie. He called "Trips TE PA Crossers," a lethal play call in the game that sends all three receivers on deep, layered routes that work to the other side of the field.
Madden McCarthy faked the handoff and launched a pass deep downfield to Jalen Nailor, who caught the ball in stride and ran untouched into the endzone for a 62-yard touchdown.
"PUT J.J. IN!" Jefferson yelled, referencing the fan's request. "PUT J.J. IN, GO CRAZY!"
“Put JJ in go crazy” 😂

It's not the first time Jefferson has been mic'd up for a McCarthy touchdown. During last year's preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Jefferson had a mic and headset, talking to play-by-play announcer Paul Allen throughout the second quarter.
McCarthy tossed two touchdowns during the contest, and Jefferson jumped and screamed down the sideline on the simulcast. Jefferson has had success through five seasons, but having a long-term solution at quarterback would help him build on his career. He had success with Kirk Cousins, but the quarterback was entering the back half of his career when Jefferson arrived. When Kevin O'Connell arrived, it felt like a new quarterback was inevitable at some point.
We'll see if McCarthy can show off the same ability on the real gridiron this fall. If he does, the J.J.-to-J.J. connection could be popular among Madden players in the future.
