Garrett Crochet, the first former Vol to play in Major League Baseball from the Tony Vitello era, has agreed to terms for a six-year, $170 million contract extension with Boston, beginning in 2026, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
Crochet's extension passes Jacob deGrom's contract with the Mets as the largest ever signed by a pitcher who has played four or more seasons in MLB. New York signed deGrom in 2018 to five-years and $137 million.
Crochet received an extension after one start in 2025 and over three months after Boston acquired him from the White Sox.
He played for Tennessee from 2018-20 and was selected by the White Sox in the 2020 MLB draft (No. 11 overall).
One of a few bright spots on a White Sox team that finished 41-121 in 2024, Crochet recorded 209 strikeouts and a 3.58 ERA.
