The Detroit Tigers are ready to play ball.
The team's second Opening Day — this one at home — is 1:10 p.m. Friday against the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park. The roster is mostly the same as last week's Opening Day squad in Los Angeles, with the exception of Justyn-Henry Malloy replacing second baseman Gleyber Torres, who is on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain.
The Tigers finished 86-76 in 2024, advancing to the postseason for the first time since 2014. This year, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch set a goal of winning the American League Central, which hasn't been accomplished since it happened four times in a row from 2011-14.
The Tigers enter their home opener in a four-way tie for first place in the AL Central at 2-4, with the Minnesota Twins in last place at 2-5.
