Chickasha boys soccer beats Ada 2-0 for bounce back win

A majority of the possession time was in the Fightin’ Chicks’ favor and is what led to their district win.

Chickasha’s boys soccer team beat Ada 2-0 Tuesday at home. The Fightin’ Chicks were able to control the ball on the opposing side of the field for a majority of the game and helped the Fightin’ Chicks continually get shots-on-goal.

“I think the biggest thing for us is you have to defend home field every time,” said Chickasha coach Callum Tucker. “Especially with our schedule we’ve got, we’ve got a run of home games coming up. It was important to us. Ada, they were good, but I thought we held them nicely and played our football well. These conditions were tough to play in and I thought we did pretty well maintaining our standards without letting them get back into the game.”

The Cougars had a stellar goalie, as he was able to get double-digit saves against the Fightin’ Chicks, but Chickasha was able to get a few by the Cougars’ goalie to secure the win.

Brennen Owens got the first goal in the 20th minute from a corner kick and Alberto Flores got a runaway goal in the 25th minute to be the difference in the match.

It was important for the Fightin’ Chicks to stick to their game plan and not let up after going up two goals, especially when the second half started.

“Second half they came out flying and stuff, so it was important for us to stick to our game,” Tucker said. “We always tell the boys our game plan never changes, we wanna play the way we play, no matter the score. We dictate the score, the score doesn’t dictate the way we play. Overall, happy with the win.”

The win moves the Fightin’ Chicks to 2-0 in district play with their next match Friday against Community Christian School in Norman and their next home match Tuesday against Madill.
