Streetsboro exploded for 31 runs in its first two games of the season, sweeping visiting Roosevelt 12-9 and 19-8 in Saturday's nonleague softball doubleheader.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, freshman third baseman Mallorie Gierke tied the first game with a bloop single. The Rockets (2-0) took the lead with three runs the next inning, including senior Hailey Miller's sacrifice fly, then surged way ahead with eight in the fourth, sparked by sophomore Khloe Cutright's three-run homer to center.
All those runs proved just enough as the Rough Riders (1-2) rallied valiantly with two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth, followed by four in the top of the seventh, including Avery Gates' towering solo blast to start the inning. Roosevelt's Skylar Lauck and Gates each had a team-high three hits in the first game.
The Rockets again surged way in front in the second game. Miller and fellow senior Nevaeh Monroe sparked Streetsboro with bases-clearing, 3-RBI extra-base hits as part of its 10-run bottom of the second. Both finished the game with five RBIs.
