1 eye-opening stat about the Thunder’s dominance this year might foreshadow the NBA playoffs

Led by the smooth Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Oklahoma City Thunder have, more or less, been one of the NBA's best and most dominant teams since the 2024-2025 season began. And their wire-to-wire regular-season greatness en route to the league's top record now has them in some rather exclusive, all-time company.

After Saturday night's 132-111 blowout win over the Indiana Pacers, the Thunder officially attained their 48th victory of at least 10 points this year. With still eight games remaining, they are one of only five teams ever to amass at least 46 wins by double digits: the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls (46), the 1970-1971 Milwaukee Bucks (47), the 2016-2017 Golden State Warriors (48), and the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers (50).

Do you know what each of those four previous teams had in common? They all went on to win the NBA title.

Stay calm, Thunder fans. Stay calm:

This is one glaring sign that we might soon bear witness to a remarkable Thunder postseason run. It's hard to deny.

Of course, Oklahoma City had the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference last year and still lost in the second round of the playoffs. So, tremendous regular-season success aside, the Thunder still have to prove it this spring. Their competition in the Western Conference Playoffs seems to agree with this assessment. Their transcendent regular season will be forgotten and ultimately mean nothing if they don't hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy in the end. The key part here is that they almost certainly understand this distinction and are already preparing to try and meet the moment.
