O'Reilly: 'Democrats will win the midterms' if 'economy is wobbly,' prices high

Conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly predicts Democrats will have success in the 2026 midterm elections if President Trump does not do more to improve the economy.

"He’s running an enormous risk," O'Reilly said of Trump during an appearance on Leland Vittert's NewsNation program. "Far more than people know. Because this time next year, April Fools Day 2026, if the economy is wobbly and prices have not come down substantially, Democrats will win the midterms. And that’s it for Donald Trump’s presidency, right there."

Trump, who is set to unveil his latest batch of tariffs Wednesday, has 12 months to stabilize the economy, help bring down the cost of living and boost consumer confidence, O'Reilly said.

"The press is going to spin everything that happens economically negative," he continued. "Everything. Not NewsNation — which I’m happy that people are finding now, because you guys try to do a fair job — but ABC, NBC, CBS, all the cables aside from Newsmax and Fox, they’ll spin everything negatively. So people will get the perception 'because the economy’s bad.'"

The president hopes "he’ll be able to make these deals on paper quickly and therefore have to take the tariffs off, which he will," O'Reilly said.

O'Reilly called the president "nimble," saying he will likely try to sell his economic agenda to voters by "waving the paper, [saying] look what I got."

Economic forecasters have warned Trump's tariffs on foreign countries could raise prices for consumers and have negative effects on the economy.

The White House has argued Trump's economic agenda is designed to help American workers and is being rolled out with long-term economic growth for U.S. companies and employees in mind.
