Wisconsin women's basketball gets commitment from former North Carolina State guard Laci Steele

MADISON – Robin Pingeton found herself a shooter in the transfer portal.

The Wisconsin women’s basketball coach scored her first known commitment Saturday when Laci Steele, a 5-foot-11 guard who played at North Carolina State the past two seasons, announced her commitment to the Badgers.

Steele, a native of Edmond, Oklahoma, made the announcement on X and Instagram.

Steele played in 55 games for the Wolfpack and averaged 9.7 minutes per game. She has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Steele made her greatest impact as a freshman when she played in 32 of 38 games, averaging 11.8 minutes and 3.4 points per game for a team that reached the Final Four. This season her averages dropped to 6.9 minutes and 1.7 points per game.

Steele is a career 31.2% three-point shooter

"Laci does a lot of things well that lead to winning," N.C. State coach Wes Moore said in a statement posted along with Steele's bio on the university's website.

"She's a knock-down shooter from three-point range who also has the toughness to score in traffic. She has the handles to push tempo and set up her teammates and the competitive spirit to be a lock-down defender. Laci has the heart of a champion, validated with a state championship as well."

Steele is the first known commitment for the Badgers this offseason. Many more are expected.

Wisconsin has a 15-player roster limit. The addition of Steele gives the Badgers nine players for the upcoming season.
