Chloe Spreen is coming home.
The 2024 IndyStar Miss Basketball and Bedford North Lawrence graduate announced on social media Wednesday afternoon she has committed to Indiana women's basketball.
A 5-foot-10 guard, Spreen, who visited IU and committed Wednesday, played her freshman season at Alabama, where she averaged 6.7 minutes across 20 games, totaling 23 points, nine rebounds, 10 assists and three steals.
She has three years of eligibility remaining.
Spreen said Tuesday hearing coach Teri Moren talk about how she wants to run the program and what she's been building was "very encouraging and motivational."
"(IU) seems like a really special place," Spreen said, adding the players she met with seem "really happy" to be part of the program and are dedicated to their craft. "They're all very hard working," she continued. "(They have) that Indiana mindset I grew up around and have basically been about my entire life. Hearing it from them has been very motivating."
Rated a four-star prospect by ESPN, Spreen began courting high-Division I interest while in junior high, with IU offering her the spring before her freshman season.
The Hoosiers recruited Spreen "on-and-off" as a high schooler, but she did not want to stay home at the time and ultimately committed to Alabama in April 2023, choosing the Crimson Tide over Ohio State and Kentucky, among others.
"When I left, I really appreciated how much Indiana loves women's basketball. I missed playing in-state," Spreen said. "I really want to be part of something like they have at IU."
As a high schooler, Spreen led Bedford North Lawrence to the 2023 Class 4A state championship as a junior, averaging 19 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.7 steals, with a career-best 38% mark from 3. She led a more youthful Stars team back to regionals as a senior, resetting her career highs with 20.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Spreen, who finished her high school career with 1,869 points, 633 rebounds, 259 assists, 200 steals and 62 blocks, joins a Hoosiers roster that's being fully rebuilt.
