Were the Carolina Panthers ever close to actually trading for former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf earlier this offseason? Well, head coach Dave Canales just offered some interesting comments about the situation.
Canales, from this year's league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., joined Monday's episode of Up & Adams. That's where host Kay Adams asked the now-second-year coach if his team has been looking into adding at the wideout position.
While Adams brought up the possible availability of Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, Canales introduced another big name into the chat.
"DK," he said. "We had the conversations. There were some interesting conversations that came up over the last couple of weeks."
The Panthers had previously been linked to Metcalf, who requested a trade from the Seahawks right before the start of the new league year. And given general manager Dan Morgan's early history in the Seahawks' front office and the fact that Canales and Metcalf shared a sideline for four seasons in Seattle, the right connections were seemingly there.
Metcalf, however, ended up being shipped off to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for this year's 52nd overall selection and a late-round pick swap. The two-time Pro Bowl pass catcher also landed himself a five-year, $150 million contract extension once the deal was struck.
