Vote: Who should be The Register Guard's girls swimmer of the year?
The Oregon high school girls swimming state championships included one Eugene-area athlete taking home an individual title, while several others had podium finishes.

Here are the nominees, in alphabetical order, for Eugene-area girls swimmer of the year:
Avery Bengtson, Cottage Grove
The sophomore took second place in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2 minutes, 14.18 seconds and third in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.99 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet. Bengtson also swam anchor in the Lions' 400 freestyle that took sixth in 4:02.28.
Piper Van Buskirk, Marist Catholic
The senior finished fourth in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.49 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet.
Madelyn Del Castillo, Thurston
The freshman won the 200 freestyle in 1:52.91 and third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.50 at the 5A state meet.
Evy Hogervorst, Pleasant Hill
The senior finished fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.56 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet.
Eloise Huling, Sheldon
The senior took fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.12 and ninth in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.5 at the 6A state meet. Huling swam anchor on the Irish's 200 freestyle relay that took ninth in 1:43.78.
Lily Jackson, Junction City
The senior finished sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:30.38 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet.
Fina Miret, Marist Catholic
The freshman took fifth in the 500 freestyle in 5:33.91 and sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.42 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet.
Tirzah Poetzl, Cottage Grove
The freshman finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.66 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet.
