With the winter sports season wrapping up and the spring season kicking off, athletes from the Salem-Keizer area continued to deliver standout performances.
This week's Maps Credit Union high school boys Athlete of the Week nominees are:
- Anthony Best, Sprague basketball
- Kaiden Ford, Cascade basketball
- Landon Knox, Cascade basketball
- Joe Mendazona, Central baseball
- Wyatt Metzger, Silverton track and field
- Noah Scharer, South Salem baseball

Anthony Best, Sprague basketball
Sprague senior forward Anthony Best was named to the Class 6A all-tournament second team March 15 after helping the Olympians to a fourth-place finish at the state championships at Chiles Center.
Kaiden Ford, Cascade basketball
Cascade senior guard Kaiden Ford was named to the Class 4A all-tournament second team March 15 after helping the Cougars to a third-place finish at the state championships at Forest Grove High School.
Landon Knox, Cascade basketball
Cascade senior guard Landon Knox was named to the Class 4A all-tournament first team March 15 after helping the Cougars to a third-place finish at the state championships at Forest Grove High School.
Joe Mendazona, Central baseball
Central sophomore catcher Joe Mendazona went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning March 18 to lead Class 5A No. 8 Central to a 10-9 season-opening home win over Class 6A Franklin.
Wyatt Metzger, Silverton track and field
Silverton junior Wyatt Metzger opened the season with a 100-meter dash personal-best time of 11.03 seconds March 20 to win the Silverton Cloud Breaker.
Noah Scharer, South Salem baseball
South Salem junior outfielder Noah Scharer went 1 for 3 and smashed a home run in his first at-bat of the season March 18 to help the No. 3 Saxons to a 6-3 home win over Ida B. Wells.
