Vote now for the Piggly Wiggly high school team of the month in March from the Appleton area

March delivered several state championship teams as the winter sports season wrapped up and brought the start of the spring sports season in Wisconsin.

Which Appleton area high school team was the best in March? You tell us.

You can vote for the Piggly Wiggly Post-Crescent high school team of the month until 3 p.m. April 11. You don't have to be a subscriber to vote. Votes are limited to one per hour per device.

In case you missed it, the Freedom wrestling team was voted February team of the month with 18,912 votes out of 52,718 total votes cast. Kaukauna wrestling was second with 17,566 votes, followed by Freedom boys basketball third with 10,548 votes.

Appleton East girls basketball

The Patriots advanced to the WIAA state tournament before losing to Kimberly, 55-34, in the Division 1 semifinals at the Resch Center. The sixth-seeded Patriots beat No. 1 seed Eau Claire Memorial, 68-65, in double overtime in the sectional final after beating No. 2 seed Stevens Point, 75-72, in overtime in the sectional semifinals. East finished the season with a 19-9 overall record.

Freedom boys basketball

The Irish made it to the Division 3 state championship game before losing to Milwaukee Academy of Science, 57-54, to finish as the state runner-up. The Irish beat Elk Mound, 66-32, in the semifinal game. Freedom advanced to the state tournament with a 49-34 victory over North Eastern Conference rival Little Chute. The Irish finished the season with a 28-2 record.

Kaukauna wrestling

The Ghosts won the Division 1 state team wrestling title for the fifth year in a row. They beat West Allis Hale, 62-17, in the quarterfinals and Holmen, 40-22, in the semifinals before a 54-13 victory over Arrowhead in the championship match.
