Vote for Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week: March 16-22
Powerlifting season has come to an end in the Lone Star State, but track, softball and soccer are in full swing as the spring semester progresses.
Standouts from each sport are among this week's nominees for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.
The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.
Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com, by messaging the Globe-News through its Facebook page or on Twitter @amarilloglobe.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible and can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
The poll will close Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

This Week's Finalists
- Bryce Braden, Stratford boys track & field — Braden placed first at the Amarillo Relays in discus with a throw of 176 feet, 10 inches to beat the silver medalist by more than 19 feet. Braden also placed second in shotput with a throw of 52 feet, two inches.
- Addyson Bristow, Canyon girls track & field — Bristow set the Amarillo Relays meet record in the 800, finishing the race in two minutes, 6.63 seconds to win the event. Bristow also won the mile and helped Canyon to a second place finish in the 1,600-meter relay. Bristow now holds the fastest mile and 800 times in the nation amongst girls high school athletes.
- The Cummins twins, Clarendon softball — Kennadie Cummins went 6-for-9 at the plate in games against Quanah and Lockney, scoring six runs while recording 11 RBIs and three home runs. On the mound, Cummins pitched four innings, allowing zero runs and notching eight strikeouts. Her twin sister, Tandie Cummins, went 5-of-6 at the plate, scoring six runs while also registering 11 RBIs and three homers. Tandie spent three innings on the mound, allowing one earned run and tossing six strikeouts.
- Sophie Ferro, Amarillo High girls soccer — In the Lady Sandies' 2-0 bi-district playoff win against Abilene High, Ferro scored a goal and notched an assist to help Amarillo High advance to the next round of the postseason.
- Emily Gaines, Dalhart girls tennis — Gaines had a strong performance at the Borger Tennis Tournament, finishing the event with a 4-0 record. The senior followed her impressive outing with a 5-0 showing at Spearman's tennis tournament, including three 8-0 victories.
- Imanol Marquez, Dumas boys track & field — Marquez earned three gold medals at the Amarillo Relays, helping the Demons to wins in the 400-meter relay and the 1,600-meter relay as the team's anchor leg. Marquez also placed first in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.78 seconds. The senior's trio of gold medals helped Dumas edge out Amarillo High to win the boys team championship at the 74th Amarillo Relays.
- Javier Martinez, Perryton boys powerlifting — Martinez won a Division 2 powerlifting state championship in the 181-pound weight class with one of the state meet's best performances, lifting a total of 1,820 pounds despite weighing in at 176-pounds. Martinez was the only Division 2 lifter weighing under 200 pounds to finish with a total greater than 1,800 pounds.
- Ansley Parr, Childress softball — Parr pitched a perfect game in Childress' win against Dalhart, also adding a home run in the batter's box.
