Top 100 2027 recruit Kaneilius Purdy reflects on FSU commitment

John Garcia, Jr.

More than one dozen college football programs jumped in the race early for Lake Wales (Fla.) High School star sophomore Kaneilius Purdy.

Yet his childhood favorite program, Florida State, had long been on his mind and on Monday he made the call to Mike Norvell to pledge a commitment to the Seminole program.

"It felt good man, I love FSU," Purdy told Rivals. "It's been my dream school. The coaches were happy, jumping around and everything. Florida State University is known for its rich tradition of excellence, both academically and athletically. The campus is beautiful, with a strong sense of community and school spirit that makes it feel like home.

"FSU’s football program has a storied history, with passionate fans and a culture of winning. Beyond sports, the university offers top-tier programs in business, engineering, and the arts, making it a great place to grow and succeed."

The early decision brings the Seminoles class of 2027 to a trio of prospects, with Purdy representing the second four-star to jump in to date.

Programs like Miami and Tennessee had been in contact with Purdy already this week, but despite the length of time before the blue-chipper could officially sign with FSU, there is legitimate comfort on campus.

The newest pledge will return to Tallahassee later this week. There he can learn more about the plan Norvell and company have for the athlete, who plays all over the field on Friday nights.

"They're gonna have me all around," Purdy said. "He (Norvell) said I fit good with their offense and he's gonna put the ball in the playmaker's hands."

As a sophomore in 2024, the Lake Wales star tallied double-digit offensive touchdowns for the second straight season. He also found a way to the end zone twice as a rusher and has multiple return scores to his name as an underclassman as well.

Few in the state are as productive and versatile with the ball in their hands and now the next level destination has become known.

"Seminole Nation—let’s do this! I’m beyond blessed to announce my commitment to Florida State University," Purdy said. "The journey is just beginning and I can’t wait to give everything I have for this program."
