Canucks Prospect Ty Mueller Set To Make NHL Debut Against The Wild
The Canucks were heavily outplayed from an analytics perspective on Saturday night. Minnesota held a 33-13 even-strength scoring chances advantage while also winning the even-strength high-danger scoring chances battle 13-5. Ultimately, it was surprising that this game needed overtime, as the Wild were the better team all night.
Looking at the heatmap, Vancouver did not do a good job of protecting their crease. Kevin Lankinen stopped five of the seven high-danger shots he faced while also going eight for nine on medium-danger shots. In the end, the Canucks allowed too many shots to get on net in the defensive zone, while failing to hold possession and create chances in the offensive zone.
To wrap things up, one line that had decent analytics was the trio of Drew O'Connor, Teddy Blueger and Linus Karlsson. While they were outshot 5-3 during their 8:55 of ice time, they were the only forward line to be on the ice when Vancouver scored and were not on the ice for a goal against. While it wasn't their best game, it was a good sign that they were able to help create some offence against Minnesota.
