The last time Boston won the Frozen Four was in 2009, after defeating Miami (OH) 4–3 in overtime. Their last visit to the championship game was in 2015, when they lost 4–3 to Providence. Last season, they lost 2–1 in overtime to the eventual champions, Denver, in the semifinals. Both Celebrini and Willander were on last year’s Frozen Four squad.

Willander, the 11th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, spent his second year in the NCAA this season. He scored two goals and 22 assists in 39 games played, including those tallied during the Frozen Four. The defender, who also put up six points in nine games for Team Sweden at the 2025 World Juniors, has yet to decide where to play after the conclusion of the NCAA season. It has been speculated that he could sign with the Canucks now that BU has finished its season.

Celebrini, a Vancouver local who turns 21 in October, was selected 171st overall by the Canucks in the 2023 NHL Draft. Despite sustaining an injury in January, he still managed to get into 31 games for Boston, putting up two goals and six assists. As it stands, it appears that Celebrini will be returning to BU in 2025–26, as per Max Miller of The Hockey News.

With the NCAA now over, the attention turns to Willander and his decision on whether or not to sign with the Canucks. After tonight, Vancouver only has two more games before the end of their 2024–25 season. On the other hand, the Abbotsford Canucks have another three matches as well as at least one playoff series.
