Welcome to this edition of THN's 2025 WHL Playoffs Daily Recap. This recurring article will provide summaries of action from the WHL post-season throughout the playoffs. Here is a look at the one game from April 12.
Everett Silvertips 4, Portland Winterhawks 3 (OT)
Everett Leads Series 2-0
These two teams have a flair for the dramatic, as the Winterhawks and Silvertips go at it in the extra frame for a second consecutive game. Landon DuPont potted his first career post-season goal, and a pair of goals were traded back and forth to give Everett a late lead. Kyle Chyzowski tied things up at three with about seven minutes left in regulation, but Julius Miettinen sunk Portland just over five minutes into overtime.
3 Stars:
Everett: Jesse Heslop- 1 Goa, 1 Assist (GWG)
Everett: Julius Miettinen- 1 Goal, 1 Assist
Everett: Landon Dupont- 1 Goal, 1 Assist
Lethbridge Hurricanes 2, Calgary Hitmen 1
Lethbridge Leads Series 2-0
The Hurricanes upset Calgary in both games at the Saddledome, the latest of which being a low scoring affair. The Hitmen got into some penalty trouble early, and the Hurricanes made them pay. Brayden Edwards opened the scoring for Lethbridge late in the second period, and while Ben Kindel got one back in the third, Kooper Gizowski answered less than a minute later and Lethbridge would hold on to take game two heading back home.
3 Stars:
Lethbridge: Jackson Unger- 33 Saves
Calgary: Ben Kindel- 1 Goal
Lethbridge: Kooper Gizowski- 1 Goal
Medicine Hat Tigers 6, Prince Albert Raiders 4
Medicine Hat Leads Series 1-0
Special teams reigned supreme on Saturday, as the Tigers down Prince Albert to open their second round series. The Raiders opened the scoring courtesy of Evan Smith's first halfway through the first, but Medicine Hat stormed back: five unanswered goals, including a four-goal second period and three of those on the power play. Pribce Albert began to claw back in the third, with goals from Daxon Rudolph and Dayce Derkatch, however the Tigers added another and even though the Raiders managed to sneak one more goal afterwards, that's how things would sit.
3 Stars:
Medicine Hat: Oasiz Wiesblatt- 1 Goal, 1 Assist
Medicine Hat: Bryce Pickford- 2 Assists
Prince Albert: Evan Smith- 1 Goal, 1 Assist
