Texas Tech baseball infielder T.J. Pompey sidelined for TCU series opener
Infielder T.J. Pompey didn't play in the Texas Tech baseball team's Big 12 series opener Friday against TCU after being out of the lineup in only two previous games this season.
"I don't think we know exactly what it is," Tech coach Tim Tadlock said after his team's 13-2 loss. "I just know he was having some pain that wouldn't allow him to go.
"I probably jinxed it last week. I thought to myself, 'Man, the guy always posts up and plays,' and came in today and he was hurting."

Tadlock kept with his policy of not detailing the specifics of an injury, but said in this case, he was uncertain.
"He's not sick," Tadlock said. "And I don't think I know exactly what it is. I don't think our doctors or trainers know."
Pompey's second on the team in batting average (.393), home runs (5), slugging percentage (.705) and on-base-plus-slugging percentage (1.123). The sophomore from Coppell has started 12 games at third base and three games at shortstop in last weekend's series at Houston.
In Pompey's absence, the Red Raiders started Garet Boehm at third base on Friday and Tracer Lopez at shortstop. It was Boehm's sixth start of the season.
The only other time he's been out of the lineup this season was a two-game stretch for a mental break that Tadlock indicated were related to defensive struggles. Pompey's one of four Big 12 players with six errors, most in the conference.
