Preview, how to watch Texas Tech baseball vs. TCU
The Texas Tech baseball team hopes the trajectory of its season is turning around.
The Red Raiders started Big 12 play last weekend with a three-game sweep at Houston, their first time to win consecutive games since last April. Tech (6-11, 3-0 in the Big 12) is through a stretch of playing 12 of its first 17 games away from home. The conference home-opening series is this weekend against TCU (15-6, 1-2).
Oh, and Dan Law Field/Rip Griffin Park is good to go. That wasn't a sure thing after the March 12 explosion and fires on campus that led to spring break starting two days early. The university announced Tuesday it plans to reopen March 24 with classes as scheduled.
"Feel really good now that we know we've got power and we know we've got everything we need to host a game," Tech coach Tim Tadlock said Thursday. "The school and Lubbock LP&L (Lubbock Power & Light) are to be commended for that. We really appreciate what they did to kind of get everything going again.
"It's been an interesting week in all honesty. I don't think we got into the (batting) cage until Wednesday just based on all that. I think there's been a lot of people working really hard to get this part of Lubbock kind of going again, and we're very appreciative of that."

On Monday, Tech announced the postponement of a Tuesday nonconference game against New Mexico, citing a forecast for high winds. And although winds did reach 38 mph with gusts to 61 that afternoon, Tadlock said the power outage was the reason for the postponement.
"We wouldn't have had power until late that afternoon," he said, "so yeah, it had 100% to do with it."
The Red Raiders played an intrasquad game that day, Tadlock said.
Tech had not won two games in a row since late April until it beat Houston 4-1, 13-8 and 11-1. Mac Heuer and Parker Hutyra tag-teamed a one-hitter in the opener, and Jack Cebert threw 5⅔ innings of scoreless relief in the second game. Zane Petty and Logan Bevis pitched well in the finale, and Robin Villeneuve and Logan Hughes both homered twice.
"We definitely took some steps in the right direction," Tadlock said.
TCU relief pitcher Braeden Sloan (2-0, 0.84) leads the Big 12 in ERA and opponent batting average (.162). The 6-foot-4 lefthander has thrown 21⅓ innings, striking out 30 while allowing 12 hits.
TCU opened conference play dropping two of three at home to Arizona State.
