Takeaways from USC football's spring roster release
Spring football season is nearly upon us. On Tuesday, USC will officially kick off its spring practice ahead of the 2025 season. Earlier this week, the Trojans released their official roster for spring 2025. The updated roster included new names, weights, and position changes.
Here are some key takeaways from USC's spring 2025 roster:
Adding beef
Last season, USC's heaviest defensive lineman was Bear Alexander, who was listed at 315 pounds. This year, the Trojans have several guys heavier than that: Jamaal Jarrett at 349 pounds, Kobe Pepe at 335, and Keeshawn Silver at 331.
Position changes
A couple of players are listed in new positions. Safety Anthony Beavers is now a linebacker, and linebacker Elijah Newby is now a defensive end.
Crawford gone
After suffering season-ending injuries in each of his first two seasons at USC, cornerback Maliki Crawford is no longer listed on the Trojans' roster.
Weight changes
Several Trojans put on significant weight during winter conditioning. Some notable examples are defensive lineman Devin Thompkins, who increased from 285 lbs. to 293, defensive lineman Kobe Pepe, who rose from 315 to 335, and tight end Walter Matthews, who went from 250 to 272.
Dalton's delayed arrival
Previously, three-star running signee Harry Dalton III had been listed as an early enrollee. According to USC's updated roster, however, Dalton will now enroll this summer.
